Napa Valley, CA (2005)

The Napa Valley orthophoto project was initiated by HJW to satisfy a demand for high resolution orthophotography of the 468 square-mile region in support of vineyard management and GIS analysis. HJW brought together both public and private entities to form a consortium whom would fund the project. This strategy enabled a low cost solution for individual participants, each of which received the full Napa Valley data set. The City of Napa, as well as the County, were strong advocates of the project and worked closely with HJW to implement the funding strategy.

HJW acquired color aerial photography at a scale of 1:15,000 (1”= 1250’), which was scanned at a resolution of 10 microns (2540 dpi), allowing the orthophotos to have a pixel size of 0.5’. To support the production of orthophotos, a digital terrain model was supplied by Napa County. The orthophotos meet National Map Accuracy Standards for 1”= 200’ scale mapping.
