Oakland, CA, January 23, 2006 – HJW GeoSpatial, a founding leader in precision mapping solutions, announced today the addition of Joe Thurgood as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Joe’s extensive experience in the mapping industry, reaching across a broad range of photogrammetry, remote sensing and related technologies, combined with over 20 years of marketing and business development experience in the international business community, adds a new dimension to HJW GeoSpatial’s organization, established in 1949 as one of the leading providers of precision photogrammetric and mapping solutions to government and private-sector clients.

“I am thrilled to be part of an organization with HJW’s history and credentials,” stated Thurgood. “Technology is driving great changes in our industry, and I am excited to be able to contribute to the experience of the HJW team in continuing the tradition of highest-quality service while introducing new capabilities to our clients.”

In addition to his responsibilities for leading the sales and marketing team, Joe assumes responsibilities for long-term planning of HJW’s future business.

“Joe Thurgood’s appointment to this position highlights our commitment to expanding our service offerings and growing our presence in the market,“ said Mike Mooney, President and CEO of HJW GeoSpatial. “Joe’s experience extending from the early years of GIS adoption to the latest advances in digital aerial sensor technology provides us a unique perspective on how we can best serve our present and future customers.”
Dr. Thurgood received his undergraduate degree in Topographic Science from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and his Masters and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, where he focused his research on geometric aspects of remote sensing and digital photogrammetry. Prior to joining HJW GeoSpatial, Thurgood held a range of management positions for companies such as Leica, Space Imaging and DigitalGlobe, where he held the post of Vice President of Marketing. Most recently, he held responsibilities for marketing and sales with Vexcel Corporation, where he worked with mapping organizations on the introduction of the large-format digital aerial camera and increased automation in fully-digital production.
