HJW is a full service aerial and geospatial mapping firm. From initial project scope consultation to the final deliverables, all photogrammetric services can be produced and quality reviewed in our offices. We offer professionally-qualified consultation, experienced project coordination, and reliable customer service.

HJW provides and coordinates aerial imagery and geospatial data acquisition. We schedule and maintain our own airplane and aerial cameras and coordinate with a network of national and international business partners to offer acquisitions on flights, satellite imagery, mobile imagery technologies and LiDAR. We offer professional and dependable photogrammetric mapping, engineering and geospatial data processing.

Photogrammetric Mapping

HJW stands ready to provide you with a full range of customized services to accurately measure spatial features from aerial photography and remotely sensed data. Our clients benefit from our expertise in all aspects of photogrammetry; planimetric and topographic mapping, analytical aerotriangulation, and Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM).

With decades of experience compiling detailed, large-scale mapping, we have developed specific collection criteria and quality standards that exceed industry standards.

Our mapping supports the most accurate design engineering projects, as well as broad area Geographic Information Systems base map databases.

Orthophotography

When many other photogrammetric mapping companies were just learning about digital orthophotography, HJW was already developing our own software and completing city-wide projects.

As a result, HJW has established itself as one of the premier digital orthophotography firms in the United States. We have been a leader in digital orthophotography technology since 1990, when we created a production facility designed for high capacity and superior quality orthophotos.

As a full-service provider, HJW controls all aspects of final orthoimage production from aerial imagery collection, integration with airborne GPS/lMU, ground control and digital terrain data, to the final color adjustments, in order to deliver an end-product of highest quality.

Aerial Photography & Satellite Imagery

HJW furnishes custom and off-the-shelf imagery to a large variety of clients. Our customers include city and county governments, as well as engineers, surveyors, vineyard managers, geologists, planners and real estate professionals.

In addition to our archive of over 1.5 million frame images dating back over 70 years, HJW maintains relationships with high-resolution satellite imagery providers to offer worldwide coverage for a range of imagery, mapping and other value-added services. We also offer imagery collection using the latest digital cameras.

Through our Historic Aerials division, we offer a full set of flight services with our own aircraft and a broad network of flying partners, and operate the Microsoft Vexcel UltraCam X large-format digital mapping camera. The UltraCam X provides natural color, false color infrared and multispectral imagery with resolutions as high as 1" pixel quality.

LiDAR Terrain Modeling

HJW provides airborne LiDAR processing, terrain modeling, photogrammetric integration and also coordinates new data acquisition. HJW integrates orthoimagery and stereo photography into the LiDAR processing workflow, allowing rigorous quality control of LiDAR point geo-referencing, point filtering and match to control sources. Additionally, we enhance LiDAR bare earth point datasets with photogrammetrically-derived breaklines and cartographic CAD editing, to produce contour maps for design engineering and hydrology. In addition to terrain modeling, HJW has significant experience with LiDAR-based transmission line mapping.

GIS Spatial Data Fusion

Geospatial data can come from various types of sensors, through both automated and manual processes and in varying formats and levels of attribution. Integration of geospatial data into a GIS database requires characterization of the various data sources, and benefits from the linkages and logical relationships between them.

HJW has generated and integrated GIS data since the inception of GIS and ESRI software. We continue to train and utilize the most up-to-date software and paradigms used by the GIS community.

The HJW Quality Assurance Program

HJW has developed an independent quality inspection program that is implemented in our operations, and also offered as a service to our clients with geospatial quality control needs.

Our program is overseen by Certified Photogrammetrists and utilizes sound principles and specific pass/fail criteria for geospatial end products and intermediate operations.

The key areas where independent quality inspection are applied:

  • Flight plan inspection procedure and checklist
  • Post-flight quality/completeness assurance checklist
  • Digital and Film Imagery generation and balancing
  • Aerial Triangulation (AT)
  • Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Validation
  • Intermediate orthophoto production data validation and inspection
  • Orthophoto end-products
